A autobiography written from a diary, kept by an English convert to the LDS church. Tells of immigration to America and landing in New Orleans in 1849, of working at various jobs before leaving for Utah in 1851. Tells of return to England.

Frederick Gardiner was born on 12 November 1832 in Chalford Hill, Gloucestershire, England. He was baptized into the LDS Church in 1845 and emigrated to America in 1849. He migrated to Utah in 1851 and married Sarah Smith two years later. Gardiner moved his family back and forth from Utah to New Orleans, finally settling in Salt Lake City in 1869.
